The functional style theory is based on the recognition of the social nature of language and considers language as an instrument that fulfills both communicative and cognitive functions. This article explores the concepts of functional style theory and its application to the analysis of texts in various linguistic contexts. It discusses different types of styles, their characteristics, and their linguistic realization. Special attention is paid to the translation problems arising from the cultural peculiarities and the different functions of the styles, as well as to the solutions for successful intercultural communication.
