This article covers the history and stages of development of kayaking and canoeing, issues related to the development of this sport in our country, and provides information on the methodology for selecting young athletes. The methodology for selecting young athletes in kayaking and canoeing is studied. The theoretical and methodological foundations of physical education and sports training are analyzed, and the criteria for assessing the physical, psychological and technical readiness of young athletes are highlighted.
