This article analyzes the possibilities of using the hermeneutic approach in the subject of mother tongue and reading literacy. The essence, basic principles of the hermeneutic approach and its role in the formation of primary school students' skills in understanding, analyzing and interpreting the text are revealed. Also, effective methods that can be used in the lesson process are highlighted - step-by-step interpretation, question-and-answer, debate, contextual and interactive approaches. The article shows the importance of the hermeneutic approach in developing students' independent thinking, critical and creative analysis skills.
