Healthcare Information Systems (HCIS) are critical tools in modern medicine for improving patient services and optimizing costs. This study is dedicated to examining the structure, functional capabilities, and management methods of HCIS, analyzing their effective implementation in healthcare organizations. The research includes a literature review and practical case studies on the application of HCIS in countries such as Italy and Croatia. The findings indicate that Hospital Information Systems (HIS) play a central role in supporting administration, patient admission processes, and clinical activities. These systems are interconnected through HL7 standards and centralized databases, facilitating data exchange. The study highlights the importance of strategic planning in internal management and inter-organizational collaboration in external management. In the future, HCIS can become more effective by advancing evidence-based medicine, expanding analytical tools, and engaging social networks. This work proposes directions for the application of HCIS in developing countries, emphasizing the need to ensure security, adaptability, and alignment with user needs.
