Cytogenetic methods are widely used in modern medicine, ecology, and biotechnology. They allow for the detection of numerical and structural abnormalities in chromosomes, the diagnosis of hereditary and oncological diseases, and the assessment of the mutagenic effects of environmental factors. Molecular cytogenetic technologies such as FISH and GISH are of particular importance and are used in selection and monitoring of genome changes. This article summarizes modern approaches to cytogenetic analysis and their practical significance.
