the article examines the formation of communicative competence of students in Russian language lessons based on the analysis of compound sentences presented in the works of A.P. Chekhov. The pedagogical value of Chekhov's prose as linguodidactic material that contributes to the development of grammatical intuition, syntactic awareness and speech analysis skills is substantiated.
