The article considers the concept of tradition as a psychological phenomenon with stable cognitive, emotional and behavioral components. The role of traditions in the formation of personal identity, intergenerational transmission and psychological adaptation in the context of sociocultural change is studied. Based on the analysis of theoretical sources and empirical data, the mechanisms of assimilation, transformation and resistance to traditions are identified. The article presents the results of a qualitative study conducted using the in-depth interview method and discusses the psychological functions of traditions in individual and group dynamics.
