The article examines the main provisions of the cognitive paradigm in linguistics. The efforts of E. V. Rakhilina, A. P. Chudinova and E. S. Kubryakova on comparing the terminology and tasks of various schools within the framework of the cognitive approach are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the study of the mechanisms of formation of the conceptual picture of the world, the processes of conceptualization of reality and methods of objectification of concepts in language. The importance of research aimed at combining different approaches and schools within the cognitive paradigm is emphasized.
